Candida Höfer was born in Eberswalde, north of Berlin, in 1944 and attended the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1973 to 1982, studying cinematography with Ole John before taking the photography course taught by Bernd Becher. She has exhibited her works in countless solo and group shows since 1975 and is regarded today as one of the leading figures on the international photographic and artistic scene. Candida Höfer lives and works in Cologne.

Umberto Eco is an internationally renowned critic, essayist, writer and semiologist. His books include Trattato di semiotica generale (1975), Il nome della rosa (1980), Il pendolo di Foucault (1982), Baudolino (2000) and Storia della bellezza (2004).
